Gilles Chaignon
Gilles CHAIGNON learnt to ride from the age of 5 years old and rode his first winner as an amateur jockey in 1975. This victory was to be followed by many others on the flat and over jumps.
Based in the bay of Mont Saint Michel at DRAGEY, Gilles Chaignon trains his horses on the beach. In 1979 he requested his own colours and training permit and with his first winnings purchased Jupe de Laine who won 6 races and went on to become a good broodmare. His first years as a trainer were marked by two quite exceptional horses, Quick Day who won the Grand Cross de Craon and Solaine who lifted the Grand Cross de Pau.
He obtained his public trainer's licence in December 1986. Still with his own horses he won the Grand Steeple-Chase de Waregem and his first tiercé handicap with Urga, ridden by Dominique VINCENT.
The years have passed in a similar vein, with Chaignon winning races throughout France and Europe, and bringing on horses such as First Gold, Djeddah, Extra Jack and Ciel de Brion.
Gilles Chaignon is first and foremost a breeder and is always ready to sell his horses. He currently has 99 wins to his credit as an amateur and over 200 as a professional trainer.
